Teitur is a solo artist (full name Teitur Lassen) who has crafted a magnificent debut album that should rank up there. Poetry and Aeroplanes is a collection of heartfelt ballads with a youthful and charismatic man supplying the words and vocals. Teitur is originally from Denmark's Faroe Islands, a small romote group of islands between Iceland and Scotland. He left home at 17 looking to bring his music to a wide audience. The album starts off with one of the album's strongest tracks, "Sleeping With The Lights On". From this track you can get a good sense of what to expect from the rest of Teitur's debut album. Teitur declares that James Taylor and Tracy Chapman were big influences on him. This type of influence result in a sound that is similar to that of Ron Sexsmith or even a male version of Beth Orton. All of these artists aren't at all afraid to lay out their heart for all to see. Ruper Hine has provided a marvelous production on Poetry and Aeroplanes. The music is lush while maintaining a minimalistic approach. There are never to many sounds washing out the most important element, Teitur's voice. Teitur has indeed created a debut that he should be proud of.
