Celebrity - Lovesick
This Nashville based rock band is a bit of a throw back to days when guitars were filled with reverb and over the top production. There have been some bands revisiting this type of sound and you can include the likes of Juliana Theory in this list. Celebrity actually just solidified its lineup late 2002 when Ryan Parrish filled the open guitarist slot. This seemed to be the link that Celebrity needed with all his guitar effects that he uses. Lovesick is a romantic album that has dark overtones to it but is lush in its presentation. It is their first full length album following a debut EP a few months back. Lance Black has a voice that would have fit in nicely into a Depeche Mode or even Dishwalla. The band is content with a floaty, atmospheric sound that rarely even gets the listener up out of their chair. Some might call Celebrity an emo band but there are nary a punk influence here. This is dark pop in its purest form and if heard by the right people, Celebrity might actually make it. They have some ironing out that needs to be done but Lovesick is a pretty impressive debut album.
