Out Hud has been around for a couple of years but this is their first full-length album and first output available on CD. I am almost a year late on this one but that's only because my special order took so long to get in. This little collective resides in the Bay Area in California and have put out EPs and Singles out on many little labels over the years but it wasn't until Kranky saw something a little more than a group putting out singles. S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. is their first full-length output and it is only 6 songs long, mind you one track is a sprawling 12 minutes in length. But the length of songs or track count doesn't matter because it's all about the groove and the more you listen to Out Hud, the more you get into it. There is not that much on the surface but once you start getting deeper and deeper into Out Hud's minds you start to understand what they are trying to do. The music is very subliminal and captivating. The music on S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. is completely instrumental but over the course of the 6 songs, they prove worthy of not having any vocalist. The music is a perfect mix between live instrumentation as well as samples and programmed beats. Out Hud would be a perfect fit on Ninja Tunes.
