Glasseater is not new to this blend of hardcore and punk/pop. This Miami based band has been plugging away at defining a sound since 1998. They have put out albums on both Eulogy and Fearless and have signed a deal with Victory Records for this new album. Everything Is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down fits nicely into some of the other bands on Victory's roster. They throw in some screamo vocals over top of the fairly mainstream punk/pop sound that dominates the album. They also use some Fat Wreck style guitars in some of the songs. The album was recorded with James Wisner who has done other similar bands like Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory. The songs on this Glasseater record deal with aspects of life that everyone struggles with; a typical emo subject. Glasseater have something going on here but I can't help but think that I have heard all of this before. That's becoming fairly common in this area. Maybe punk is dead. No, I can't believe I said that. There are some very interesting things being done in the hardcore/punk/emo landscape right now but unfortunately there are a lot of bands that show talent but are lacking the originality. Glasseater needs to change it up a little more. They have the ability to play some catchy shit but after listening to 10 songs from them I found myself a little on the bored side.
