Ah, finally someone gets the emo/hardcore formula perfected. Not saying that bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Samiam had never figured it out but there have been so many bands after them trying a similar formula but haven't succeeded in doing anything unique. Bear vs Shark is a Michigan state band that is emotionally driven and intense at the same time. The breaks that Bear vs Shark throw into the music are different and refreshing in a genre. The album, which has an even lengthier title of Right Now You're In The Best Of Hands. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know In A Hurry, is a showcase of dynamic showmanship with songs ranging from the super quiet "MPS" to the rambunctious "Michigan". This is the type of album that grows on you with every listen, like so many in this genre. If Bear vs Shark are given half a chance they will end up climbing the college charts in no time. They are different enough to stand up against the likes of Hot Water Music and Next album and everyone will be talking about the band and Equal Vision will be pleased with another successful act on their roster. So who would win, the Bear or the Shark? Who cares when they make music this good together.

They say inspiration, like food is necessary for sustinance. If this is so, prepare to have a full four-course meal forced into your catheder. Aggressive, angsty vocals piping lyrical genius the likes of Third Eye Blind and Andrew Jackson Jihad engulf you from "Bloodgiver" to "We Were Sad But Now We're Rebuilding". Hints of polyrhythms and technical mastery give way to the massive iceburg of musical godliness beneath the wake. Dynamics are neither lacking or overdone, the album as a whole flows into pensive lows and soars to raging heights in tasteful fashion. Would anybody like a nice cat? "Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands" is moving in and hates animals. Like a middle-aged divorce I'm too whipped by this album to care about the furry little bastard.
