Small Brown Bike must be thinking that they are doing something wrong. You see, this Michigan post-punk band has put out two previous full-length albums but still remain relatively unheard of. That is until you start talking to bands in the same genre. Small Brown Bike are one of those bands that all sorts of youthful and veteran punk bands are listening to. The band has taken influences like Jawbreaker and Samiam and melded them into something new and different. The River Bed shows this band growing up and doing what they do best. Small Brown Bike are too smart to be considered emo. There sound is full of harmonies and chunky guitars. Tracks like "Day and Nightmares" and the powerful "What's Missing Is Dead" have such a full sound to them that there is no way people can dismiss Small Brown Bike after hearing them. The last track, "A Lesson To Remember" is a very low-key track with harmonies oozing out all over until it builds up. I even make out some pedal steel in it. If The River Bed doesn't break Small Brown Bike out then no one is listening. This is a great album and one that the band should be proud of. If you have listened to Small Brown Bike before you need to hear this album. If not, then you should give this album a couple spins before making up your mind. This album is a classic in the making.
