Cex is none other than Rjyan Kidwell, a messed up twenty-something from Baltimore MD. Is it hip-hop or it it more like rap-rock? Who knows and who cares. Being Ridden is a very interesting and different album that shows Rjyan as a very innovative artist. There was a companion CD released with Being Ridden that was just the instrumental tracks that Cex used for this album. Forget about it. The samples and sounds don't make much sense without Rjyan's vocals. He seems like a confused teenage just learning about relationships but there is something charming about his awkward rhymes. His voice is diverse and his arrangements are very unique. He had some help from former Shudder To Think member Craig Wedren but I think that most of Being Ridden came from Kidwell's funked up head. On "Signal Katied" I could swear that Cex is the exact same vocalist that Faith No More used on Introduce Yourself. It really is uncanny. "Cex at Arm's Length", "Working" and a couple of other tracks sound like twisted tracks from a Folk Implosion album. This is due to the vocals provided by Wedren. Being Ridden is a breakthrough album for Cex, if the masses will understand what it is that he is about. I'm not even sure.
