Tora! Tora! Torrance is back with a new album entitled A Cynics Nightmare. The group sat down with Neil Weir to do an EP but the material actually progressed so quickly that they decided to issue another full length album just a short year after their debut, Get Into It. They headed into the famed Pachyderm Studio's and pounded out a very interesting album. There is a lot of similarities between Tora Tora Torrance and some of the New York sound but there seems to be a little more post-punk involved. The band comes from Minneapolis, home also of Husker Du and the Replacements so they do have this bit of influence as well. Think more along the lines of At The Drive In or Q and Not U for what to expect from this young, up-and-coming band. The guitars are thick while Nick Koenigs wails out his awesomely powerful vocals. The music is noisy but easily accessible with all the hooks and big-ass charisma coming from the boys. The band makes proto-punk the way it was meant to be. There are aspects of A Cynics Nightmare that don't really seem that original but Tora Tora Torrance pull it off without seeming like copycats.
