Warsawpack is back with their follow-up to their impressive debut album, Gross Domestic Product. Now imagine if Medeski, Martin, and Wood would have collaborated on an album with Soul Coughing, using Noam Chomsky was writing the lyrics. That's where Warsawpack is heading. They are funky as hell but angry as hell too. It sounds like political white-boy rap but it leaves with a bitter taste in your mouth. It's not bitterness from the music but instead the political lyrical content. It's no wonder that the politically fueled G7 Welcoming Committee decided to pick this band up. My favorite chorus on Stocks & Bombs comes from "Rogue Nation": "There's only one nation, and they so blatant, we don't need to name them. The Rogue Nation! And watch them throw they weight 'round the world so flagrant." Blank out the lyrics and this is a fine jazzy style of hip hop. Throw in the lyrics and you got a jazzy Rage Against The Machine. Reading through the lyrics I learned a lot, proving that Warsawpack are well versed in political points of view. Lee Raback has a great voice for this style of music. It won't be long before Warsawpack are climbing the college and university charts with their intelligent hip hop/rock hybrid. It's smart and intelligent and deserves to be heard.
