The obnoxious cut-and-paste cover - a two-headed mannequin dressed in pink fur, '70s type, and NYC skyline might worry you, but have no fear. This is no New Wave cash-in. This band has been struck by The Fever that strikes every generation, from Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Mick Jagger to The Cramps to Jon Spencer to The White Stripes, the bad-ass sickness that makes you scream and sweat and stay up late, drinking and snorting and, uh, twisting the night away, epileptic paroxysms and obsessive hand-wringing included. "Ponyboy" kicks off this 5-song EP with a straight-to-hell psychobily bassline, dragging you into a swamp of depravity - and oh, she don't mind, she's all right. Sure, whatever you say. "Ladyfingers" metronomic intro is followed by a caustic, sarcastic, two-finger organ riff and more Cramps-inspired urgency - "I walk on my hands for you." Ouch, that hurts. "Bridge & Tunnel" is a metaphor for - something I'm not quite sure of - but the angular XTC guitars and herky-jerky vocals frame an incredible chorus of "Darling, I wanna get to you darling, We're gonna push it through darling, Bridge & Tunnel tonight" - YEAH! Whatever bridge and tunnel is, you'll want it by the end of this song. "Pink Paganz" is a preening, cocky, vocoder swank through the underbelly of glam, sung with Abba-Zabba abandon. "The Glamorous Life" - yes, that "Glamorous Life" - eviscerates Sheila E's only hit with spiky guitars and obnoxious attitude. The Fever are the real thing. Can they survive rock n' roll hell to spit out a full album of this? I hope so. I can't wait.
