Friends Like These is one of those unknown bands that come along and smack you upside the face. I Love You is alternative pop at its finest, in its best form. The package of I Love You is a little to be desired with it's amateurish design but please, do yourself a favor and look past that. This is power-pop that fans of the genre will cherish and seek out everything that the band does. When you hear bands that are this good you really can't imagine why they are not signed to a larger independent. Try listening to "Heaven" and not leave the stereo singing the chorus. They do have a bit of 90s indie sound to them like Seaweed. There may be a few nods towards Oasis styled Brit pop but that's where it ends. Another thing that surprised me about Friends Like These is the great production of I Love You. It's a pristine sound that really makes this record stand out. Harmonies are brought out to the front because that is something that this band does wonderfully. I Love You is one of the best self-released albums I have heard in a while. I do have two complaints; the name is a little generic unlike the music and the CD package was a little too amateurish. Small complaints for a talented group of musicians.
