If you are unfamiliar with Reggie and the Full Effect then let me get you up to speed. Basically, Reggie is James DeWees from The Get Up Kids and Coalese fame and Reggie and the Full Effect became his side project that ended up so much more than that. Under The Tray... is James' second full-length album as Reggie and he already has a legion of fans that love his genre jumping music that is goofy and actually very well thought out. Reggie jumps in and out of punk, pop, rock, metal, emo and everything in between on Under The Tray.. (a joke about the actual CD packaging). Put away all Get Up Kids premonitions in your head because James moves away from any similarities to his full-time band. In fact, Reggie and the Full Effect is about having fun and rocking out when rocking out is required. What about "Mood 4 Luv", a total 80's syth rock song? Nothing is sacred on a Full Effect album. There are the essential little quotes in between songs like his past albums. The neverending "Drunk Girl at The Get Up Kids Show" that comes in 4 parts is priceless. "Getting By With It's" sounds like a perfect Fountains of Wayne song. "Apocalypse WOW" is a super heavy emo track that is one of the highlights on the album. Reggie and the Full Effect have successfully created another great album that is as diverse as can be.
