Sam Roberts is a fine songwriter and his skills are finally being realized. His debut EP, The Inhuman Condition was met with critical and commercial success, prompting Universal to cut a deal with the Montreal based musician. Here in Canada he has been met with two hits, "Brother Down" now making waves in the USA and the fired up "Don't Walk Away Eileen". These two singles alone prove the diversity of songwriting skills that Sam possesses. He has both feet firmly planted in pop/rock. Listen to "Every Part Of Me", a track that could easily be penned by Ray Davies of the Kinks or even Paul Weller. It has a summery feel to it that just makes the listener feel good. In fact, "Rarified" sounds like a British pop song as well. He has a knack for creating songs that you want to sing along with. "On The Run" is the best garage rock song to come out of Canada since Tangiers. Charisma and honesty are two traits that you will find on Sam's proper debut album. Sam Roberts should meet some fine success with We Were Born In A Flame. Not necessary to get The Inhuman Condition because half of those songs are on this album.
