Bonnie Hayes is nothing new to this songwriting thing. She had an early career masterpiece in a pop album that has long been forgotten about called Good Clean Fun, released in 1982. She never really got the attention that she deserved back then but musicians like Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray, and David Crosby (among others) have chosen to record her songs. This is the calibre of songwriting that she has and now you can experience it, once again, first hand with the release of Love In The Ruins. Her vocal style is similar to that of Bonnie Raitt but not quite as gritty. These songs are pretty much all great rockers that evoke a road weary musician. There is a couple good slower tracks as well: "Stealing Roses" and "Turn Down Love", the latter being a track that has so much potential at becoming a hit. Obviously moving away from the pop style of her early career, this rootsy style is much more becoming for her. Hayes is still a musician that deserves to recognized for her songwriting skills and there is no greater recognition than one of your self released album hitting the charts. Let's see if Love In The Ruins can do it for her. Lord knows it's got the potential with tracks like "I Can't Stop". I'm glad I finally discovered her.
