Lagwagon is back from an extended hiatus. In fact it has been about 5 years since their last album, Let's Talk About Feelings. The boys have been off doing their own side projects like Bad Astronaut, Me First and the Gimme Gimme's as well as RKL. But time has brought the guys back together to provide us with another killer album as Lagwagon. Blaze should be considered one of the finest moments for Lagwagon too. It's a fine return to form, resisting pretty much every other influence that happens to be in the punk rock world. They stay on track with their tongue in cheek lyrics and the punchy riffs that leave you salivating for more. The break seems to have given the band some revitalization and allowed them to focus a little more. Other punk bands need to take note, you know, the ones that put albums out ever year. Have a listen to the blistering "Lullaby" for a taste of what Blaze has to offer. It's probably one of the fastest songs Lagwagon has ever played and penned. Lagwagon gets compared to NOFX a lot but there are elements of Lagwagon that are miles ahead of their labelmates. One thing that NOFX has that Lagwagon doesn't is a couple of vocalists. This adds a dimension to a band that Lagwagon doesn't have. Joey Cape is a very apt vocalist but sometimes a little backup goes a long way. Lagwagon seems to be a little more focused than NOFX too, meaning more consistent albums. Check out the intro riff into "Baggage". Isn't that an AC/DC guitar riff? Only Lagwagon is able to get away with shit like that and that's why I love them.
