Now into her fourth decade of performing, Etta James is just as classy as always. She has stayed true to her blues roots all these years and Let's Roll is really no different. While she's seen a lot in her day, include some heavy drug addiction that she kicked, nothing could have prepared Etta for the chaotic events 9/11. Let's Roll is an album named after those words that hero Todd Beamer uttered just before he brought down the plane before more disastrous events could have occurred. Etta states that she has played Jazz, blues and pop but her heart is in rock and roll. Let's Roll is as close as you would ever get to an Etta James rock album. Her rock would be everyone else's blues. But this is a fine blues album. There are so many great tracks on this album but one that stands out is "A Change Is Gonna Do Me Good". It's a gentle, almost confessional track that she pours her heart into. You can hear some similarities to Van Morrison on the album but in the end, this is a true Etta James album that can easily sit beside At Last.
