Alkaline Trio has been plugging away at the pop/rock thing for over 5 years now and they are on the verge of becoming recognized for their efforts. Good Mourning marks their sophomore album for Vagrant Records and it's an interesting mix of pop and punk. It may just be this mix that has made Alkaline Trio one of the hottest bands that haven't been fully realized. Punk fans will be disappointed at the amount of pop in their music. It is really accessible and people that may listen to Thursday or Hot Water Music might shy away because there is no real edge to the music. But, on the other hand, radio programmers that would like to put tracks from Good Mourning on their shows have a hard time because of the punk element that is there. Tough break for this talented band because this music deserves to be heard. The tightness of the chugga chugga guitars on tracks like "If We Never Go Inside" shows the band's experience is above par. The music is powerful and accessible, something that is demanding to be heard on radio. I must mention that Good Mourning has one of the best packages I have seen in a while. Nicely laid out with a black, white and red theme (hmm, White Stripes influenced maybe?).
