3d5spd - Fever In The Ice Age
3d5spd (Three D - Five Speed) is an interesting band. They have been around in some form or another since 1995 but it was a few years later that their line-up solidified and 3d5spd was born. Vocalist Chris Hoke sounds eerily like Perry Farrell but the band is a little more progressive than Jane's have ever been. "Lightweight" is one of these demonstrations. They have released three records on their own and shared the stage with many other up and coming artists. Fever In The Ice Age does mark the first release that they have done for a label of any sort and Two Sheds is the lucky imprint to get these guys. The best thing that the band has going for it is Home's vocals. He really is a great centerpiece for the music and the arrangements around them are evolving and you can tell that this is going to be a great band. You might almost say that 3d5spd uses some of the psychedelic sounds of the early 70s but it's hard to tell if that is even an influence. "Neon Season" is one of my favorites on Ice Age. It reminds me a bit of the Ganharvas sound in the 90s. This is one of the strongest releases I have heard from the Two Sheds label this year, the same guys that brought the brilliance of Ashen to the lime-light.
