Rooney - Rooney
This LA based quintet seems to have already got the legion of fans to go along with its bubble-gum style rock music. Rooney is fronted by Robert Carmine, younger brother of Jason Schwartzman (Phantom Planet) and is rounded out by 4 other apt musicians. Their style of music is instantly catchy and like-able with it's 60s style pop mixed with a Weezer style power pop. Rooney doesn't do anything that original. What they do is take power-pop and try and do it better than it's been done before. They end up doing it with mixed results but if you are looking for that perfect pop album with catchy songs that you start singing along to the second listen, then Rooney is your band. I found it entertaining that they used the "I can't fight this feeling" riff to good use on the album closer "Losing All Control". This is still a young band and I think that time will mature Rooney and bring them into writing more original songs. But in the meantime, Rooney provides a great soundtrack to the fun summer ahead. Get into it before everyone else is.

Rooney, too often referred to as that band from the O.C., is much better than show that featured it. Theres some of the same element of Californian superficiality, sure, but not to as deep of a degree as youd expect.
Its tough to find a favorite song, as the majority of them have redeeming qualities. The exceptions would be the rather bland Popstars which comes off too silly, considering the bands hype and the obnoxious Im Shakin.
If you are looking for variety, you will not find it here. But thats OK, because Rooney knows how to do its surfy, power pop quite well.

The self-titled debute album by the surf/pop rock band Rooney is just about as good as you can expect from a band that as made an apperance on the now cancelled show the O.C. They are catchy and almost every song at one point was my favorite song. The single "Shakin" is not nearly the best song of the set which says alot because it is exceptional. Some highlights of the album are everysong except the very last one which was sub-par when standing next to the rest of the album. "Daisy Duke" which is a personal favorite of mine is an superb song. The entire album is very good it is catchy and almost a perfect album. The replay value is ridiculously high. The only problem I have with this album is that it becomes a little repetitive. Overall Rooney made an amazing first album.
