Everything about Death On Wednesday's Songs To ____ To seems like a punk album; the DYI album cover, the name and even the EP title. There is a a lot of punk on the album but it's the Morissey styled vocals that throws you for a loop. It almost sounds like Beautiful South have gone punk, or at least attempted it. Have a listen to the vocals in "Born To Bleed" and you will see what I'm talking about. It rings a little like Social Distortion if Mike Ness had a little more range. I haven't heard their debut album but it stated in the bio for this album that they had started out recording some demos. One thing led to another and the sessions turned out to be full on recording sessions and Songs To ___ To just magically appeared. Death On Wednesday may have enough characteristics to push them into the mainstream. It's mostly Nate Lawler's interesting choice of vocal styles that sets them apart from other pop/punk bands. Let's see where their next full-length takes this California based 4-piece.
