Skateboarding gives you soul. Well, you would think so after listening to the offerings of skateboard pro Tommy Guerrero. Soul Food Taqueria is his latest album and it's smoother than anything he has done yet. Where some of his earlier albums Tommy was noodling with electronics, Soul Food seems to be primarily about creating mellow jazz grooves. I'm amazed that he takes on all instruments on this album as well. He is well versed in pretty much every instrument and has no problem sounding proficient in every way. This is one of those albums that isn't outstanding but it does serve a purpose. I can't really even pull out favorite songs off of the disc because they all kind of flow into one another. If you threw this on at your local martini bar, the mood would instantly be set. Taqueria isn't intrusive but works well as background music. I could actually see this music being used in a laid back street skating scene of a Bones Brigade video.
