The super fun duo of Fountains of Wayne are back and they are back to form after a bit of a departure with Utopia Parkway. Welcome Interstate Mangers is a pop masterpiece that Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger should be proud of. It's almost as if a lot of bands have lost the ability to create catchy pop songs but Chris and Adam have it wired here on Welcome Interstate Managers. There are upbeat tracks and fairly mellow tracks like the loungy "Halley's Waitress". "Valley Winter Song" takes a bit of a different direction but it is welcome. It is more along the lines of a Matthew Sweet pop style with a jangly sound and bouncy rhythm. The boys even take a crack at a country vein in "Hung Up On You". It's pretty impressive too. Try this lyric on: "Ever since you hung up on me / I'm hung up on you". This ends up being an almost perfect pop album. Fountains of Wayne don't worry about political issues but instead, make you forget about your problems with some sweet and fun rock music. This is one of the years best releases so far.
