Mico is a Calgary-based band that has been growing in popularity for the past few years. In fact, the band came together in 1998 as a three-piece and has grown to the five-piece it is today. The music that Mico plays is not punk music, as many people have the impression. The music is more along the lines of The Weakerthans. They may have a political punk ethic but they are more apt to rock out than scream politics at you. Mico's musical style is gentle and warm. They don't feel the need to turn up the volume on every song. There are times when the boys feel that rocking out is appropriate but don't come to expect it. And I'm more than positive that the reason they caught the attention of the fine folks at G7 Welcoming Committee is their strong political views that they voice in their songs. "Can you explain in human terms now: what has happened to democracy? Free will to choose between insanity or lunacy." - "This Great Achievement" This is the sort of lyrics you will find on Outside the Unbearable Grows. The music is refreshing even though it took a couple of listens to fully get into. Don't enter Mico's world if you don't want to think about issues that surround everyone. This is a fine album that Mico should be proud of.
