Klezmer music, the traditional dance of the Jews. None have done it quite like the Klezmatics, a group of musicians from New York who have basically, single handedly redefined what Klezmer music is. This isn't easy music to play either. Klezmer is intricate and sophisticated at the same time. Rhythm & Jews is one of the Klezmatics shining moments and Rounder has picked up this album for re-release. It was originally released back in 1990 on Flying Fish and now that Rounder has released it, it makes it easier to find. This is a fun album that should give you a great idea of the potential of this style of music. Most people just pin it in a corner and don't give it a chance but it is a fine musical genre and this is as essential an album as any. The Rough Guide called Rhythm & Jews one of the World Music 100 Essential Albums. Experimentalists would enjoy this album as well. There are times when the guys get completely out of hand but they always come back to the song and keep the listener satisfied. If you haven't heard this album, venture out and give it a listen in the store. You will be impressed at the musicianship that these New Yorkers possess.
