Tarantel used to be the home of musician Trevor Montgomery. Well, now Trevor has decided to head out on his own in the form of Lazarus. Now Lazarus isn't really much different a project than Tarantel. You will remember that Tarantel was a very mellow affair and Lazarus hardly leaves the bedroom either. Songs For An Unborn Sun is a look at the inner workings of Montgomery in a cryptic style. Marty Anderson, Lazarus' labelmate in the form of Howard Hello, takes a crack at production on Unborn Sun. I can't imagine producing any of these kinds of albums to be that easy. One minor change can end up meddling with the way a song sounds. Anderson does a fine job though making every little detail stand out and seem important. "Ocean (Burn The Highways)" is probably the most upbeat track on the album. It's got a nice flow to it. The rest of the album is gentle and serene. Don't expect to get off on tracks like "Hero". As with most Temporary Residence releases, Lazarus comes off the best over a pair of headphones, late in the evening. A somber and reflective album that should please fans of quiet music along the lines of Low.
