While many people have given up on Fairport Convention, there are a lucky bunch that still flock to their performances and buy their CD’s. They have had a line-up like a revolving door but some of the members have been around for a long time. XXXV is signifying the 35 year of existence in some form or another of Fairport Convention. The long-time members include David Pegg and Simon Nichol (the only founding member left). Though the band seems to have solidified in a more with the addition of multi-instrumentalist, Chris Leslie (formerly of the Albion Band), and Gerry Conway (percussion). XXXV is a very fine celtic/folk album that shows these musicians are top notch players. They choose a nice blend of traditional tracks as well as some more contemporary ones and self-penned songs. There are a few guest artists as well including Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson playing flute on “Portmeirion. Celtic and Folk fans alike will enjoy Fairport Conventions latest.
