Four Tet - Rounds
Kieran Hebden just doesn't seem to rest. He is back with his Four Tet project and is following up his Pause release with an even more adventuresome release called Rounds. Now, Kieran's music isn't about pleasing the masses. He is one of those artists that is happy with a fairly large fan-base but doesn't feel it necessary to make it to the next level. When you listen to Rounds, there are times when you think "Where does Hebden come up with these ideas to put all these sounds together?" Four Tet is a similar experience to that of Boards of Canada and not quite as wild a ride as Aphex Twin. Kieran makes steps forward with Rounds but doesn't leave Pause behind. He states "I like the sense of melancholy and I like pop music. This record has a 2am lonely feeling, because that was largely when it was made, on my own, in my little flat." With that being said, you know the best way to experience not only Rounds but any of Kieran's work with Four Tet or Fridge is late at night on your headphones. My favorite is the spastic "She Moves She" with the thumb piano. It's a different track that really sounds fresh and experimental.
