Never have I seen an album cover that so justly reflects the sound of the music contained within. A Norther Chorus could easily be considered a dream pop band with their airy arrangements and breathy vocals. They have a chamber ensemble feel to them that radiates beauty and good feelings. There are harmonies on Spirit Flags that send shivers down your spine. This group is from southern Ontario and Spirit Flags is the over the top debut for Sonic Unyon. There is even a flute player named Julie MacDonald (also in Flux AD) and a viola/violin player, Sarah McGregor who has recently relocated to Austria. This just adds a huge element to an otherwise sometimes dreary style. Spirit Flags is definitely not a party album. Take it home with you and listen to it on a rainy evening where your plans didn't quite turn out. A Norther Chorus won't be for everyone but those that enjoy chamber pop will relish in Spirit Flags.
