Unfortunately, Astro-Rock may not "take-off". The whole thing has been tried before even though the boys in Brave Saint Saturn are taking claim to the term. On The Light Of Things Hoped For, Brave Saint Saturn's sophomore effort is more pop than anything. Reese Roper's vocals are meant for radio play. His great voice is unfortunately sometimes plagued with cheesy music and samples here. You might check out his other ska project, Five Iron Frenzy to see what he is capable of. Roper states that Brave Saint Saturn is a way to get his darker songs out but I found that this album was almost straight ahead pop. He needs to look at tracks like "Enamel" and realize that he is a gifted pop songwriter. It's a catchy song that could be refined and put onto radio. If he drops the whole "astro" theme as well as all the silly samples in between songs this project may go places. Tooth and Nail is known for their Christian values and Brave Saint Saturn is able to inject some references without preaching at the listener. This makes it so much easier to take. I'm thinking that Brave Saint Saturn does have potential but Reese needs to look at focusing his songwriting a little more.
