Ready to take a trip back in time? Hop aboard Smithsonian's time machine back to the original Delta blues. No, we're not talking Robert Johnson or Big Joe Williams here but one of their cohorts, Honeyboy Edwards. After spending the depression years in the Mississippi Delta area David hauled off to Chicago where the post-WWII electric blues were making way for rock and roll. It left him lots of room to do what he does best, acoustic blues. This recording, as most Smithsonian releases, put Honeyboy in his comfortable setting, playing songs that he grew up with. As always with blues musicians, they hardly ever play the same songs the same way more than once so every recording is different. This album was originally issued in 1979 on Folkways but it has undergone the great remastering treatment it deserves. At 85, Honeyboy Edwards remains the sole spokesperson for Delta blues today.
