Putumayo has created a great international chill album. The Euro Lounge collection takes a variety of beat driven music from all over the world and creates a seamless mix. I don't know how Putumayo does it having A&R people all over the world picking the quality music that they put on these compilations. The album kicks off with the ever popular Thievery Corporation, one of the only artists that I actually recognize on the compilation, with a track called "Un Simple Histoire" featuring LouLou on vocals. Mambotur provides a Tango-tinged track called "Salpica". It reminds me of the Gotan Project. "Jackie" is a track that Bossa Nostra does and it has the obvious Bossa Nova feel to it with English vocals provided by Vicki Anderson, formerly in James Brown's band. These are some of the opening tracks that set the mood for the rest of the album. There aren't any real surprises on the album but it is very consistent. Not a bad track on Euro Lounge, which is hard to say for a lot of chill compilations. All of the tracks have some sort of world beat flavor to them but are also ripe with electronic beats and samples. It shows that electronica is a form of music that is indeed made it's way around the world with everyone who touches is adding their own little twist to it.
