Now I haven't been a big Blur fan for long. Actually, I was living in England at the height of the Blur / Oasis battle and just ended up annoyed at the whole thing. Sure, there were catchy tracks like "Country House" and "Parklife" and I caught myself singing along to "Charmless Man" a couple of times, but as for complete albums I really felt that both Blur and Oasis seemed to be lacking something. And "Song No. 2" is one of the most over played songs of all time. That's where last year's greatest hits album fit nicely in my collection. My tune has changed now that Think Tank has come out. This is Albarn and company's (minus Graham Coxon) most complete and ambitious album. We all know that Blur may have fallen in Damon's priority list over the last couple of years but Think Tank shows that it only appeared that way. He has taken some of the skills he learned with his Gorillaz project as well as his Mali Music project and implemented them into a new reinvigorated Blur. You may have heard "Crazy Beat" on the radio already and had no idea who it was. Think Tank is a beat centric album that really grooves. It's a fine example of rhythm being the forefront of music. Damon's voice sounds great on tracks like "Out Of Time", proving that he is still indeed interested in singing in a pop band. Think Tank is experimental but there is still enough accessibility to it that the masses may take to it. But, on the other hand, they may have completely lost a lot of their hardcore fans, if they even care. I'm still grooving on "Crazy Beat" ('Crazy Beat, Crazy Beat Yeah Yeah'). It'll probably end up on many commercials as well and become ingrained in our heads.
