You may wonder why I picked an anthology as a classic album but my reasons are simple. I couldn't pick just one studio album and if you had to have just one in your collection Way To Blue would have to be the album of choice. Nick Drake was a fellow with many psychiatric difficulties that most likely helped his somber snogwriting. Although his three studio albums were out between 1969 - 72 they are timeless. His instrumentation is flawless and full of beauty. You cannot listen to a Drake song and not feel emotion flooding out. In the end, Nick's depression got the best of him and he overdosed on antidepressant medication at the young age of 26. Not only a musician's musician, he appeals to anyone that appreciates great mellodramatic songwriting. Bands such as Belle & Sebastian were obviously influenced greatly by Drake. Just recently Island records bought the rights to all his material and have remastered and reissued them all. If you fancy this album look into getting his complete recordings packaged as The Fruit Tree which contain his 3 albums and a rarities album.
