Superdrag - Regretfully Yours
This is the album that should have started it all. Superdrag is one of the all-time greatest power-pop bands in America, if not the entire world. Elektra took a chance on Superdrag and Regretfully Yours was the result. Never really amounting to many sales, the album was critically received and fans (such as myself) were blown away at songs like "Sucked Out" ("Who sucked out the feeling"). While the entire album has some of the best riffs ever written in the power-pop vein, the part that sends shivers up my spine ever time I hear it is the transition between "Slot Machine" and "Phaser". I don't know if there has been a point in rock that has meant to more to me in a recording studio. While Jon Davis and his crew have released some pretty amazing albums since then (read: one of the most consistent bands in rock next to Weezer), they have yet to crown this achievement. I make it quite known that I am indeed a Superdrag fan and that Regretfully Yours is the best place to start the love affair. From the fun times in "Destination Ursa Major" to the ballad of "Truest Love" Superdrag is an underground phenomenon that is just begging to be discovered by anyone that is willing to take the time. Regretfully Yours should have been an instant success, instead it remains one of the most revered albums that has remained shelved for the longest times. Buy it before Elektra decides to delete it.
