Silverstein is a new band that formed in 2000 in Southern Ontario, Canada. The boys took the bands name from the author Shel Silverstein who was a big influence on all the members as children. When founding member Richard McWalter left the band and former Maharahj guitarist, Neil Boshart entered the picture, a new bond was formed as well as a new vision for where the band needed to head. They follow the path that Thursday and Thrice laid out in the dual vocal hardcore area. Silverstein shows that you don't need two actual vocalists to pull this off. That awesome singing voice as well as that horrific scream you hear are all provided by Shane Told. It is the classic case of melodic punk mixed with screaming vocals. When Broken Is Easily Fixed is a great debut but not perfect. There needs to be a little more diversity in the songwriting. Sure, it's great to have the dual vocal skill but songs start to blend into one another after a few tracks. Still, with that being said, Silverstein show great promise and I would be on the lookout for this band in the near future.

I used to be a huge fan of Silverstein back a couple years ago. When i heard the screams and guitar parts i became more into them. But as time went by, the more and more i listened to them, the more annoyed i became. I'm not saying that Silverstein is not a good band, I'm just saying that it is quite simple to 'out grow' some of their music. It all starts to sound the same after a couple of listens, and that not what people really want to hear. My personal recommendation to anyone getting into this band, would be to not make it a habit of listening to them for too much. You'll get tired of it and wonder why you bought the album in the first place. This is in no way a 10 star album, or even close, but maybe a 6 star. Above the average, but not that far above it.
