Bows - Cassidy
Bows are back with their proper follow-up to their very cool debut, Blush. Cassidy has Luke Sutherland in fine form and has his creative hat on making new and improved music. It's really hard to compare Blush and Cassidy because they are so different. Signe Hoirup Wille-Jorgensen lends her vocals on a couple tracks again. These happen to be some of the most compelling songs on Cassidy ("Cuban Welterweight Rumbles Hidden Hitmen", "Blue Steeples", and "Sun Electric"). Her voice reminds me of Nina Stordenstrom, whispy and almost non-existant. She really adds to the arrangements that Luke put together for her. Ruth Emond also contributes vocals on a couple of tracks, "Wonderland" being the better of the two. Debbie Smith from Curve/Echobelly/Snowpony fame is found on the album as well. The whole album gels nicely as an entity. Sutherland has done a lot more thinking about the whole rather than individual tracks. Some tracks have hardcore drum and bass deep beneath them like "Wonderland" but the surface is so beautiful that you hardly even notice it. Sutherland really has outdone himself with Cassidy and it will be interesting to see where the former Long Fin Killie heads from here.
