If mainstream radio is every going to get on this emo craze that's happening, it may just be Mae that rides to the top of the wave. Destination: Beautiful is a fine album that has just enough aggression (and that's not a whole lot) to sound like they mean business. The band knows how to write some decent hooks too. The band states on their website "Mae was originally just a recording project with Dave and Jacob. They were just going to record a few songs, playing all the instruments themselves. The sessions ended up being at Mark Padgetts studio, and the session players they found ended up being the band." It's impromptu sessions like this where bands really start to gel. Mae has a very radio friendly sound that could be liked by almost anyone (except hardcore fans). This is the sort of music that should be heard by the masses. Tooth and Nail have been doing this quite well lately. The nice thing with Mae is that they actually have quite a few dynamics. The album closer, "Goodbye, Goodnight" is one of my favorites with it's march-like rhythm. Destination: Beautiful is one of those albums that grows with every listen.

Mae is the type of band that you play in your car stereo when you're on the way to the beach, simply put. They have a sound that makes you want to sway a little bit, or scream the lyrics out at the top of your lungs. For me, Mae is the first band that influenced me to get into soft rock with their amazing lyrics, and smooth melody. But the thing that amazes me, is that i can still listen to more heavy bands [i.e; every time i die, the chariot, norma jean] and still go back to the original Mae album. These guys have really made something ground breaking with destination:beautiful. Something intelligent that could influence plenty. I agree that the masses were not ready for a release like this, because the sound was truly remarkable. And i'm still not sure if they are. But if you're into bands like hellogoodbye, where you can put your windows down and blare music. Listen to your favorite song and sing every word, then i recommend you check out the band Mae.
