If you have been reading reviews on MusicEmissions for a while you will know that I am a big Deep Elm fan. When other labels put out rarities, it's usually just to cash in on a couple bands but Deep Elm is different. People clamor for more content from the label (like me). This time around Deep Elm delivers the goods from some of their hottest bands at the moment. The album kicks off with a track from The White Octave, a band that is overdue for a new album. This track is called "A Chinese Character" and it has the cool chunky guitars that I love from this band as well as the DC style vocals. Cross My Heart is one of Deep Elm's bands who have folded since releasing their amazing Temporary Contemporary album. They get one last go with a track called "Complications". Other artists include Benton Falls, the recently relocated Appleseed Cast, Walt Mink, Drive Til Morning (debut album due soon), the soft song-writing of David Singer, Race Car Riot, Camber, and one of my favorites on Deep Elm - Slowride with a track called "This Train". While Deep Elm's samplers might be a better value for someone new to this label, Unrelease no. 2 is also a good value, capturing songs that you would not find elsewhere.
