Whether it's completely intentional or not remains to be seen but Antenna is pretty much a commercial album. Cave In has been known for their progressive heavy rock sound and on Antenna they take it even further and provide an easy listen that radio may or may not pick up on. Antenna marks their first major label album. They have had 3 previous albums out on Hydra Head, each getting to where they are at today. Cave In has been heavily influenced by bands like Radiohead but on Antenna they actually reach beyond that influence and carve out new space for them. Their metal/rock sound is almost ethereal in essence and creates an almost dreamy state for the listener. Jupiter, their previous album, had signs of this but there was no way that anyone could have dictated that they would have come this far. Oh, there are still slabs of fairly heavy tracks like "Rubber and Glue" but for the most part, Antenna sounds like a cross between Rush and Hum. Cave In may go over the average listener's head but be rest assured that this is the new sound for this creative hard rock band. There are enough melodies, although mostly dark, to catch on in the mainstream.
