Part 2 of the Dub Selector has hit the streets. Quango is doing a fine job of keeping up on what’s happening in the Dub area of world music. On this edition we are treated to almost an hour’s worth of Dub inflicted music of many different natures. Some of the tracks are true Lee “Scratch Perry style while others tend to lean a little more toward the modern electronica side (“38:45 (A Thievery Number)). Either way, a haze of smoke comes out of the stereo when this disc is played. There are a number of different artists on Dub Selector 2, some well known and others fairly obscure. Big Youth, a regular reggae staple, is here with “Waterhouse Rock with Groove Corporation providing the dub remix. Nick Holder is present with a track called “Moments in Dub. Other than the aforementioned Thievery Corporation track, the rest of these artists are fairly obscure. It’s a fine album for dub aficionados but for the rest of us who just dabble in Dub, I recommend reaching for a genuine Lee “Scratch Perry album.
