Mr. Talib Kweli is back for his follow-up with his partner Hi-Tek and what an album he delivers. Quality is a strong name for an album but Talib knows his talents and is all set to take on the masses. Many consider Quality to be Kweli's proper solo debut and what an album this is. Talib is at the forefront of the intelligent rap movement that all began with his involvement with Mos Def and the Black Star project. It's like there is happier times on the West Coast than out East. Quality is more than a great album but one of those rare moments where there is no turning back. Not only is Talib in full effect but he also gets artists like Cocoa Bovaz, Bilal, Mos Def, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch, Novel, Res, and many others that don't steal the show but add to it. Rhymes are so smooth on here and the samples and beats fire on all cylinders. There are even some pretty cool guitar oriented tracks like "Joy" (featuring Mos Def). Have a listen to the straight up style of "Get By" to hear what Talib is capable of. With an album like Quality, it's hard to imagine a follow-up better than this but artists like Common have pulled it off. In the mean time get busy with Kweli on this album. It's a hip-hop highlight of 2002.
