LTJ Bukem - Journey Inwards
This album is a bit of a departure to Bukem's typical groundbreaking jungle beats. Journey Inwards is a bit of a journey in itself, mixing soul, funk, downbeat, jazz, ambient and his signature drum 'n' bass style. The album takes on a bit of a mood swing as some tracks are laidback and relaxing and others are a little more upbeat. Gone are the driving jungle beats Bukem was acustom to throw down but the creativity is not lost. In actual fact Journey Inwards marks his first album of completely original music. On more than one occasion Bukem resorts to actual musicians as opposed to programmed sounds. The albums work well together even though the second one is supposed to be the downtempo one. This is one of the top electronica releases so far this year.
