The movie of Hedwig and the Angry Inch looks like one of those of kilter musicals that you have to see. It seems as though it takes some ideas from Pink Floyd’s Wall and Rocky Horror Picture Show and then goes one step further. See, the story goes something like this. Hedwig was a boy named Hansel and gets a sex change to get married to an American soldier in order to get over the Berlin Wall. The operation goes awry leaving him/her with the Angry Inch. She then forms a rock band and meets a man named Tommy Gnosis who leaves her and steals her songs and becomes a huge rock star. And the story goes on. As if that’s not enough to make you go see this musical that New Line Cinema has just finished as a film. The music is very musical like; over the top at times and at others it is quiet and reserved. The music was entirely composed by Stephen Trask (as far as I can tell he plays the part of Tommy Gnosis as well). He looks and sounds a bit like Matthew Sweet. It looks like Bob Mould plays guitar on the album as well. You will find a killer track by Girls Against Boys entitled “Freaks. All in all, Hedwig and the Angry Inch ends up being quite an entertaining glamour album that is sure to please.
