There is a good quote on the My Very Last Breath tear sheet that sums up Deep Elm releases: “Emo insists that it’s easier to keep the walls up than to work up a sweat tearing them down. Anyone who is familiar with Deep Elm has come to recognize them as a driving force in this sub-genre, even though they have been venturing away from this on a few releases. The difference with Deep Elm and other emo type labels is that Deep Elm is diverse. The Emo Diaries is just what any uninitiated needs to hear. The label tries to focus on generally unheard of bands to make up the brunt of the tracks, with the odd new signing that Deep Elm has made. Chapter 8 is really no different. It’s what other labels should look at to look for new signings. On this release we have Logh, a new signing from Lund, Sweden, Kelly8, another Swedish band, The Home Team (Winnipeg, Manitoba), The Solo Project (Scottsdale, AZ), The Colour Blue (Chicago), Fading Fast (New York), and Down-To-Earth (Los Angeles). It’s as fine as any Emo Diaries and continuing proof that Deep Elm cares about the independent world. This is good stuff.
