RecommendThis albums needs a bit of an introduction as it is more a project than a Grand Royal compilation. Tanis Root came up with the "Groovebox" which is a combination of the 808 and 909 drum machine, 303 bass machine and a sampler. He wanted to give this "box" equipped with identical samples to various bands to see what sort of result they would get. Grand Royal decided to take on the challenge of getting together some of today's hottest artist that were up to this challenge and ended up with quite a roster. John McEntire (Tortoise), Air, Pavement, Beck, and Sonic Youth just to name a bare few were enlisted to this project. The results really aren't that hard to imagine with all the artists adapting the Groovebox to fit into their own personal styles.
