Yo La Tengo never cease to amaze. Just when you think you have them figured out they throw you a curve ball like 1997's I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One. No problem, I can deal with such a great album. There was no way they could follow up such a masterpiece but.. to my amazement the curve ball comes again. With their latest offering they have created a quiet pop gem. They never really rock out but it doesn't mean that the variety is missing (2 exceptions being "Cherry Chapstick" which has the same feeling as "Sugarcube" and their cool cover of "You can have it all") . The trio of James, George, and Ira has become what could go down as one of the most consistently improving band of our time. This album tries out sparseness and space, spreading everything as lightly as possible to attain the gentle sound Yo La Tengo does so well.
