There is something going on in Montreal. Not only is it home to up and coming electronica label Haute Coutre, but there are bands like Les Jardiniers that are pushing electro beats into new territory. Moon Patrol is the follow-up to Cafeteria, their very successful debut album. How did they end up on Haute Coutre? Well it’s pretty easy when you are the head of the label as Martin Dumais is. He must be one busy man. Anyway, about Moon Patrol… This is one of the coolest funkiest electronica albums that has come my way. I threw it on not knowing what to expect because I had never heard their previous effort. Two tracks in and I was blown away by “Alpine Fever which starts out with a didjeridoo and then kicks into the funkiest electro track. The album is thumping funky ride throughout. The tracks go from a minimalistic style into a full blown funky head nodding affair. You can tell that Martin and his partner Jean-Francios Charette really have a knack for picking the breaks. They mix it all in: house, funk, techno, and hard beats. This summer expect Les Jardiniers to seep into all your favorite nightclubs as this will be a hot album to pull remixes from.
