You know what the nice thing about Shellac is? - the fact that you don't even know it's out. I am a fairly big fan and this album was out for a month and a half before realizing it was out. Albini and crew have come up with a real winner again with a bit of a concept album about pain and suffering. After the opening "Prayer To God" in wich Albini is asking God to kill the man who stole his girlfriend. With the second song he spits out "This is a sad fucking song / you'll be lucky if I don't bust out crying" and then proceeds with their trademark chunky rhythmic sound. This album isn't quite as sonic as their past efforts but it does get a little more intricate in places. As always Steve's lyrics are thought provoking and Bob Weston and Todd Trainer are still one of the finest rhythm sections going today. The packaging on 1000 hurts is great too. Go out and pick it up today. Steve Albini recommends their 180gm vinyl.
