Sevendust - Animosity
It is beyond me why Sevendust hasn’t broke into the mainstream market more than they have. They have established themselves as a very powerful metal band with dynamics and a huge loyal following (myself included). Animosity is Sevendust’s third album, all on TVT, and their strongest to date. You can tell that the band is providing Rock Radio with a few tracks that would be acceptable for airplay but for some reason the powers that be just refuse to play them. In a radio world where P.O.D., Incubus, and System of a Down have hit the Modern Rock Chart you would think a band with this much diversity would be right along for the ride. Sevendust could have easily taken the more radio friendly approach but they know what they like to play and they know that they got to where they are today by playing f**king loud. If you have either of their previous albums then you will know what to expect. Lajon Witherspoon really has the best vocals going in hard rock / metal right now. His lull to a scream is second to none and the band is easily able to follow suit. He has taken many lessons from Living Colour’s Corey Glover. The band is tighter than ever with catchier lines and melodies in their songs. They can still get mind-numbingly heavy at times but the mixture, as always, is just right. Don’t worry. Their time will come.
