Fu Manchu - California Crossing
It must be an overabundance of testosterone but Fu Manchu rocks my world. Any time I hear the Fu Manchu sound it just makes me want to sneer, form metal horns with at least one of my hands, and nod my head in an irreverent fashion. There is nothing that special about the songs that these boys write but it’s all in the presentation. Thick and heavy is the order of the day and don’t forget to fuzz out the guitars to the extreme. There is no way that the Manchu can surpass their last album but there is one thing that they can do, make themselves even more accessible. I think that’s what these bong-boys are after on California Crossing. Their songs are not quite as intense as past albums but don’t fret because they are even catchier than before. The track that stands out for me is the title track with an actual sung chorus. “Mongoose is another track that stands out of these 11. Strap on your surfboards, light up your waterpipes, roll down the windows and crank Fu Manchu. They know how to rock the masses and aren’t afraid to reach them either.
